It’s always going to be a moot point. Singling out the best survival knives means having to make a choice between tools that are essentially a matter of personal preference.
Not everyone is going to share the same choice when it comes to picking a survival knife, so when we talk about the best, we are really talking about the best for you. If it suits you and does the job you need it to do, it’s probably worth choosing. Here are some suggestions.

- fixed-blade survival knives are altogether more serious pieces of survival equipment;
- this example from Gerber – another American manufacturer based in Portland, Oregon – has a mighty 10in stainless steel blade, a full-tang metal and plastic handle, and a multifunctional sheath with integrated firesteel, sharpener and whistle;
Camillus Western Black River Fixed Blade Knife
- the Camillus Western Black River Fixed Blade Knife has a 4.75″ drop point Titanium Bonded blade making the 420 steel 3x harder than an untreated stainless steel blade;
- Included is a Ballistic Nylon Sheath that will protect your blade against debris and other foreign materials;
Opinel Outdoor Knife

Craftomatik Medieval Knife

Folding or fixed-blade, affordable or tidy investment, the knife in your pocket or at your belt could prove a true friend in any survival situation.
